I have a 1998 L2900GST, 4wd that I recently bought. Everything seemed fine when I bought it but now that I'm trying to work it I have a problem.
Any amount of resistance seems to halt the tractor unless I shift down to the 2 lowest gears. For example, it can't climb even small inclines or move through mud without down shifting.
Also, it can't take off from a standstill unless it is in 4th or lower and I found out this weekend that the transmission disengages if I put it in the 7th or 8th road gears.
I'm very put out as this tractor came from a reputable dealer, unfortunately, he's over 6 hours away.
Help!
