Sounds like a good idea. Another starting problem I had, that may also be relay related, is the fuel shut off solenoid. I was having to crank the engine over for longer than normal for it to start, even after it was warmed up. I had 12V at the solenoid connection with the key on, and the local dealer agreed that it sounded like a bad solenoid, but that they haven't had any problems with them. To check things out the dealer told me to remove the fuel shut-off solenoid, and see it the tractor started, which it did. While I had the solenoid out, I put 12V to the terminals, and the plunger never moved, which indicated to me that it was bad. I ordered a new one, but in the mean time, the dealer told me to either make a plate to cover the hole where the fuel shut-off is mounted with 2 bolts, or just cut the rod off the old one to seal things up good, till the new one comes in. ( I cut the rod off ) The motor started fine. I rigged up a wire to make it easy to manually kill the engine by moving the small lever on top of where the fuel shut-off goes. When the new one came in, I was curious, and decided to bench test it. While still in the package, poked 2 small holes so I could put 12V to the terminals, expecting to see the plunger suck back into the solenoid. It didn't !! So it's still in the package, and I'm killing the motor manually. So I'm stumped. Why wouldn't a new fuel shut off solenoid activate when 12V is placed across it?
