Just purchased a L100 a few weeks ago, the 17 hp single cylinder briggs is a plenty strong enough motor for the 42 in deck, the deck will shake and shudder from overloading it with clippings well before the engine would ever bogg down. The manual tranny feels good compared to a few others I've had
