In Reply to: JD140 electrical problems? No nothing now... posted by Scott Trautman on Tuesday, August 14, 2001:

: 1. Powerwashed JD140 with it on, worked fine.
: 2. Shut it off, couple days later, turns over, smell of gas, no spark.
: 3. Start futzing with electric components (basically just took them off, put 'em back on)
: 4. I DID leave the key ON, came back, now no nothing.
: 5. Used jumper cables, nada, same thing.

: Any ideas? I'm looking for the service manual, and maybe someone can help me break this down into testable pieces to see what if anything I've broken.

: It's done the turn-over, no start before, I swore at it, jiggled things, it started. Not sure which part of that worked...I have my suspicions....

: THANKS for any pointers!

Scott,

I am not sure what the problem is but I do know where you messed up. NEVER put cold water on an air cooled engine that is hot!!! You could have cracked a head or warped the cylinders, cracked a crank case and numerous other things. Besides all this power washing forces water into places it does not or was not intended to be e.g. inside electrical component cases. This causes corrosion to terminals and connections. Sorry I am of no help yet, you need to start eliminating things by testing srat at the battery and work your way to the ignition system, good luck your going to need it.
