In Reply to: Low quality diesel fuel??? posted by Guido on Monday, August 13, 2001:
: Actually! We got a really BIG problem: we have lots of john deer combines and our diesel fuel is really bad (we can remove water and some mechanical impurities) but we have in our fuel 0,9% of sulphur!! Can anyone tell me what can I do (and what can expect while using this "fuel") many thanks in advance. mailto dito@aport.ru
Guido,
Your right you do have a problem, sulfur is like acid to a deisel engine it eats away at it from the inside, you can expect engine problems if you use this fuel in its current state. How much of this fuel do you have? I would talk to your tractor mechanic to see if there is any thing you can add to the fuel to reduce the effects of the sulfur, however I dont think there is. What you can do is dilute it with some higher quality fuel. For instance if you have 100 gallons of .9% and you mixed 100 gallons of .1% then you would have a mixture of .5%. I will look in my JD manual tonight and see what they call for in sulfur content but I think it is supposed to be below .2%.
