: I was driving down the road when the engine on my John Deere 750 Diesel (1995) began to miss. I pulled to the side of the road, the engine died, will not turn over. When I turn the key I hear nothing other than the relay clicking. I installed a new fuel filter. Any suggestions will be appreciated!
Bill, there are a few things that bother me about your problem 1. diesel engines do not need a battey to run 2. fuel pumps need a battery to work 3.clicking on a starter is usually a cylinoid. So with the symptoms you described I am going to say you have an electrical drain (short) somewhere on your tractor that is causing you these problems. Heres how it works, You leave the house and start down the road, somewhere along the way you develope this short(bad connection)and it causes your alternator to stop charging your battery, assuming you were running your lights and other electrical equiptment your battery went pretty fast(drained) now you dont have enough voltage to run the fuel pump and as the fuel press. starts to faulter so does the engine( no gas).
