Gary,
I have the standard turf tires on it. They are great on dry
surfaces, but I have a low spot on my land that fills with water.
If I drive through that after a rain, I run the risk of getting
stuck, even with the differential engaged. This would be the case
with any tractor without 4WD.
When I am driving parallel to inclines, it is very stable.
The differential is only engaged when you have the pedal depressed;
JD does not recommend continuous use of the lockup.
If you have steep hills to deal with, you might not be able to mow across
the hills, no matter what you get. However, if the ground is dry, this
tractor will go up very steep inclines. I have some steep sides on my
driveway, and I have to engage the differential, but then it goes right
up. I think you would be very pleased with this tractor. For the record,
I paid $6100 for mine, with 320 hours, a 54" deck that hadn't been
used (the tractor was used for winter snow brooming), and a JD cab, with wipers,
front and back cab lights, and a JD heater. The cab was rusty, and it
is definitely ugly with the cab on it. Given all that, I think I stole
it, but that should be a reference for you.
Mike
