Mike, That was a great review you wrote! I am shopping for a used 455. Are you running turf saver tires--the standard tires that came on it new or are you using bar type tractor tires. I have some very steep hills to climb. Please answer asap. Also, how stable is it on hillsides, steep going across instead of up and down? Can you say anything else about the locking differential, i.e. does it stay on after it's engaged or do you have to keep your foot pressure on it>
Thanks
I just bought a used (1998) 455. It had an unused 54" deck,
: and the first mowing I did on the land I owned was through 3 foot weeds.
: It hacked them down, no problem. I seeded part of the land, and the first
: mowing was outstanding. I also pulled out some goodsized boulders with it,
: in the 500 pound range. I dug around them first, and the tractor pulled
: them straight out.
: The locking differential is outstanding. It feels like it would tip over
: backwards before it would lose traction. That little Yanmar has a lot of
: low end torque. It has 320 hours on it, and runs like it was new. It had
: a very ugly cab on it, which was probably why I got the price I did on it,
: but hey, its a tractor, and I'll love it this winter on the 750 foot driveway.
