In Reply to: Advice on buying a JD 455!! posted by T Holt on Sunday, July 22, 2001:
I just bought a used (1998) 455. It had an unused 54" deck,
and the first mowing I did on the land I owned was through 3 foot weeds.
It hacked them down, no problem. I seeded part of the land, and the first
mowing was outstanding. I also pulled out some goodsized boulders with it,
in the 500 pound range. I dug around them first, and the tractor pulled
them straight out.
The locking differential is outstanding. It feels like it would tip over
backwards before it would lose traction. That little Yanmar has a lot of
low end torque. It has 320 hours on it, and runs like it was new. It had
a very ugly cab on it, which was probably why I got the price I did on it,
but hey, its a tractor, and I'll love it this winter on the 750 foot driveway.
