Carol, I also have a 2004 GX335 w/ the 20hp kawasaki engine and after reading your thread I went out to check my plugs they also have some dry carbon build up on them, I haven't expierenced the symptons or problems that you have but do believe your dealer along w/ john deere should make your GT245 perform the way it was designed to I truly hope this situation get's resolved for you in a positve and expediant manner you have suffered enough already.
Please inform us how the Gt is performing lately and what exactly resolved the problem
