In Reply to: 318 hydraulic problem with 54 blade posted by Godfrey Zawatski on Monday, July 26, 2004:
Godfrey - The hydraulic circuit that angles the blade is shared with the "up" and "down" of the mower deck. As a result, the fluid must go through the rear cylinder (at the back of the tractor) to raise or lower the linkage for the mower deck, before it gets to the cylinder that angles the blade. The result is, the blade angle will not hold and in some cases will not move the blade much. There is a fix, however.
The best solution is to purchase a shut-off (or block-off) valve. Install the valve at the rear cylinder to resolve this problem. The John Deere part number for the valve is AM39614. You will also need a 1/8" NPT close nipple, available at your local hardware store. - Dave
