LX255 Engine Noise

I have the Kohler 15HP in this rig and it has had a engine knock when cold from day one. It happens when the temperature is below 60 degrees F and knocks until the engine is warm. It sounds just like lifter noise. The dealer is useless on this. They charged $100.00 to tell me there is nothing wrong. Anyone know of or heard of this problem?
