160 blades draining battery

Hey there...

I have a jd 160. When I engage the mower blades, it drains the battery. If I disconnect the battery, the blades will stop. I almost have to recharge the battery after every mow. (2.5 acres) Is this a problem with the PTO or a short somewhere?
