I have a JD 185 with exactly the same problem. One end of my spring is still attached (in the small hole right next to the lever cover screw hole), the other end of the spring is just hanging. I know that the loose end has to attach some how to the lever, but I have yet to figure it out. Hopefully someone out there knows. Sorry I couldn't help.
