: I have a John Deere 425 that I purchased new in 1993. It runs great in the winter but in the summer when the engine gets hot it spits and sputters and won't re-start when I stop mowing for a while. When I take off the air cleaner I can see the gas boiling in the carb. because it gets so hot from the muffler. Just for kicks I put some tin foil between the carb. and the muffler. It helped but I a bit disappointed that I paid thousands for a tractor and need tin foil to help it run right in the summer. My local service guys just look at like I'm nuts. A co-worker has the same tractor with exactly the same problem. Any ideas on how to fix this beast?

MY THOUGHT WOULD BE YOU NEED TO MAKE SURE THAT YOUR COOLING SYSTEM IS WORKING PROPERLY YOU MAY HAVE ALLREADY DONE THIS AND MAKE SURE THE FAN IS TURNING IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION SO AIR IS PULLED THREW THE RADIATOR AGIAN YOU MAY HAVE DONE THIS.ANTIFREEZE BOILING POINT NEEDS CHECKED AND WATER SERCULATION AND AIR MOVEMENT ON YOUR ENGINE IS CRITICAL. HOPE THESE IDEAS HELP.
