How mechanical are you? A new tractor is the easiest and MOST expensive way to solve your problem. You can replace the motor with a new one in around one day if you know basic mechanical stuff and that is second on the cost list. You can buy what is called a "short block", a new block with most of the innards installed and swap over your intake manifold w/ carb, the exhaust system, starter, etc from your old motor and save a few more dollars. What kind of condition is the rest of the tractor? Is it worth investing in a new motor? Will a new motor give you another 5 years? 10 years? That would be the determing factor in what decision you make. I just put a new motor in a 1984 316, but I'll end up with a tough machine that will last 10 or more years. Normally you can not fix a cracked block. I know guys that just keep running them and adding oil as necessary until it flat out dies a slow death. Kinda like squeezing your last penny. I have no idea what a Kawasaki engine sells for, you can check with www.smallenginewarehouse.com
