Eric - It's possible the coil is weak. I don't have the specs for checking the coil. My first thought was the coil. However, when you indicated that pouring a bit of gas into the carb, the engine started briefly, I discounted the coil as being the problem. Still, it is possible.
As far as the carb goes, the float could be bad, which would make starting difficult to impossible. Also, there could be something plugging the jet, or the carb could be out of adjustment. What about the choke. Is it adjusted properly? When fully engaged, does it completely cover the carb opening? When fully disengaged, does it provide a full opening? - Dave
