It could be several problems. I would have the batery checked to make sure it is fully charged. If it is charged try using it and if it does'nt stay charged up it could be the alternator,regulator or switch that is bad.
On most engines you can take a volt meter and with the engine running measure the voltage at the battery terminal.Usually if the electrical system is working you will get around 13 - 13.5 volts on your meter. This may vary from engine to engine.
