I have an early 70's 310 Backhoe. It ran fine until last week. After several hours of work it started to miss and put out black smoke. I tried to clear the engine but it continued to miss. I shut it down and returned in 20 min it started and ran fine for 30 min and then started missing again. I shut down and started later, it runs fine for a while and then misses badly. The time it runs good is getting shorter and shorter.
So far I have done:
Drained the sediment trap (did not replace fuel filter not but did so 9 months ago)
Drained the fuel tank
Replaced the fuel line from tank to pump
Cleaned the air filter.
I replaced the fuel pump 6 months ago.
It seems to start missing when it when it warms up
This is an old worn out unit that gets only 100 or so hours a year around my 2 acres.
Any thoughts on the problem?
