: I NEED SOME HELP ON HOW THE BRAKES WORK ON AN LX172. CAN THEY BE ADJUSTED AND IF SO HOW.
Behind the right rear tire you will see a bolt on the transaxle. Linkage from the brake petal goes to it. You simply turn the bolt in to tighten and out to loosen. On my LX 172 I had to replace the brakes. They are very inexpensive come two in a bag from J.D. To replace brakes, remove the right rear tire. Makes job easier. Remove bolt you used to adjust brakes. Remove brake pads. Install new brake pads. Screw adjustment bolt in. Replace tire. Crank tractor up drive, apply brakes. And adjust brakes as needed. When I noticed my brakes were not stopping very well. I removed the original pads and found one of them was broken in small pieces. It was a very simple job to do.
