I have a John Deere 6120 that will not charge until the tractor reaches 1700 RPMs. The stater wire does not get energized until 1700 RPMs, it is not that the alternator does not charge. To test this, I clipped a wire to the stater lug and started the tractor. The charging light started to flash, so I touched the stater wire to the battery for a second. The light went off and it continued charging from then on.

Also, once it begins charging, it does not stop. So if I take it to 1700 RPMs, and the light goes off, then I can take it back down to a normal RPM.

So, I have two questions. 1) What takes the stater wire high on the JD 6120. 2) If the answer is computer, the question that follows is, under what conditions does the computer take the stater wire high? (i.e. start key on, engine running, so on and so forth.)
