I've always used a high wind (air) volume blade. This type blade will lift the grass and
cut it better. They will also give a better discharge out the shoot. To mulch.. you install
a blockage (plate) in the discharge shoot, to
stop the grass from blowing out, This intern will
chop the grass in smaller pieces. The only time
I use mulch is in the fall, mulching leaves instead of rakeing them. Most decks will have a
choice of regular, or high lift (air) blades.
The high lift will have a turned up (wing) area
on the back edge of the blade for the air. The
regular blade will be almost a flat blade, this
should be used in high dust areas.
