I have a '99 JD445 that is doing about the same thing, pinched off the map sensor vacuum line and it ran fine, after checking on a map sensor ($265.00) the service department at the dealer said they have had similar symptoms, turned out to be the gas line in the tank it may "rupture". I'll be checking this next, you should have 25 lbs. of fuel pressure, and after the pump cycles and shuts off it should hold the pressure, if the pressure drops, it is probably leaking back through a hole in the gasline inside the tank.
