IN my years of working on The John Deere esp; the 318 It is the best garden tractor Built;and a lot of them still being worked. I would recommend staying with the stock Engine, ONAN; Rebuild it if at all possable; It will help keep it's value up; You have a piece of history and it's an investment. If kept Stock. Enough said.
