hi ron; the dozer is a 450 diesel. worked on it today and established that it has something to do with the clutch and the transmission. when i start the machine there is no noise.but when i push the clutch in and start to let it out it sounds as if something is trying to engage even know the machine is in neutral. sounds as if the transmission wants to engage in neutral and its just grinding gears. i would shut the machine off with the noise and restart it and the noise would be gone, until i push the clutch in and let it out again. thanks for the reply anyway
