If I understand corectly, you are cutting the grass and idling down the engine while the mower is engaged? You shouldn't do that. If you need to reduce your ground speed, use the hydrostatic tranny to do that. The mower deck is a fairly big load and when you cut the throttle, you reduce the available horse power to drive the mower deck. You also reduce the mower blade speed resulting in a poorer cut.
