Paul - Vibration does not help. What size battery do you have in your 318? Is it spec'd properly for the application? I've seen people put a little lawn and garden tractor battery in their 318s, and it just won't last. Also, don't know if you live in a cold climate during winter, but if you do, you may want to consider using a battery tender to keep the battery charged. A weak battery does not do well in cold climates, nor during periods of non-use. Keep the connections clean, at the battery, ground and starter. The original battery in my 318 lasted for over ten years. It was a fluke I'm sure. - Dave
