Coonie : It seems on those tractors some people are having problems with the battery terminals at the battery posts. Make sure your are really good and snug. Otherwise you need to charge the battery up really good and if you are still having electrical problems then write back.
Water in the fuel should have no affect on cranking speed, but it will make a difference if the filter gets plugged from it, the unit will not start.
If the tractor runs then dies and then is hard to start it would be most likely another situation , perhaps the fuel hose. I had problems with mine and one day it was running fine then died, ever since then I had hard starting and then sometimes it would just shutoff. It turned out to be on the plastic gas tank at the bottom was a brass elbo screwed into a plastic bushing with a hose clamp. I install a new brass fitting and teflon taped it over and over cause of the plastic bushing, installed new fuel hose and it's run fine now for a couple months.
