Me and a friend have 5520's and have found the primer pump on top of the fuel filter pretty much useless, just doesnt work. I crack the bleeder screw on inj. pump and use a air hose and rag to slightly pressurize the fuel tank to push fuel to get the air out. In your case it sounds like air is getting in to let the fuel fall back into the tank. I would unhook the fuel line from the on-off valve by the filter and the line off the inj. pump and put air pressure to find the crack, bad oring or whatever is letting air in.
