Did your kit have the service fittings made on the new lines or have adaptors to change them to 134 service? If it had the adapters did you remove the the valve core's before installing them? If it is not taking freon the switch in the back of the compressor will cause the fuse to overbeat and eventually blow from lack of freon. If you have pulled a vaccum, it should pull freon in but it will probably not take the full charge (3.6 lbs for R134a) until you start it.
