: : A John Deere 4100 is the way to go. Get it with the 60" deck and the 410 loader. It is amazing what this thing will do. If you want a litte more John Deere has the the 4110 and 4115. The 4110 has one more pto power with the hst and lifts more than the 4100 in the rear and is still a 20 hp tractor. The 4115 is 24 horsepower and is a real workhorse and it uses the the 410 loader, the only drawback to all this is the price. I paid $17,600 for the tractor, loader, 60" deck and the ballast box. My tractor is so nice.
If you can wait untill Aug 2002, John Deere is producing the new x-series, a sub-compact of there own. You would need to order it soon to have it by 8/02. Prices not out yet, but I'll bet 12,000-15,000. Plus John Deere will be discounting all remaining new 400-series models. I bought a new 425 in '96 and may trade up.

: : : Hello everyone, anyone!
: : : I am in the process of upgrading my GT 225 to a larger tractor. I have the option between buying a 4100 manual shift or a GT 455. I am also considering a Kubota BX2200. My tasks are as follows:
: : : Grass Mowing 1/4 acre, slight hills, few turns - I want to mow it fast
: : : Snow Plowing/removal - 120 foot driveway, RI area
: : : 20 yards of Mulch to move and distribute.
: : : boulder movement - up to 500 or so pounds
: : : I hear there are concerns about using the loader and the mower deck with the manual tranny on the 4100. Are there any concerns I should have about either unit in doing the work that I am looking at?
: : : Similar in price $10 - 11k.
: : : Any advice?
: : : Nuru
: I would buy the JD 4100 if you want to move heavy stuff. The kubota just can't move it with that bucket. The JD 4100 can move it and some more. It will do anything you want but you should go with the hydrostatic transmission, you will thank yourself later.
