This one has realy become an interesting and expensive problem.

The operator was driving the 5420 into the shop and the engine died like there was no fuel. The guys put fuel into the tank and tried to prime it with the fuel primer button on top of the fuel filter element. They got the tractor started but the next morning when they tried to fire it back up it wouldn't start. They tried the primer and kept getting air bubbled in the system that were bubbling out the filter bleeder plug. So like usual they took off the plunger and check diaphram from inside the primer and cleaned out the fuel fuz that had accumulated in it over time. Put it back together and bled the system and started it and the next time they went to start it the fuel had drained back into the tank.

Well I purchased the kit for the primer and an inline fuel filter to install in the fuel system before the main primer pump on the fuel filter housing, I got the parts and installed them and we have the same problem.

Well it appears when you prime the system that air bubbles are coming from the fuel inlet line from the tank.

This tank is plastic and sets slightly lower than the fuel filter housing on the left rear axle housing. We blew air back into the tank and the fuel line hooks up directly onto the bottom of the fuel tank.

We have bled this system over and over till were blue from diesel exposure.

I have worked on Deere products for over 30 years and I have never seen a fuel system on a deere that has the fuel tank below the filter housing and fuel injection pump inlet and does no have a fuel transfer pump. There is not one in the fuel tank and none inline and there is a plate on the side of the engine that one would normally go onto, geeze.

Has anyone experienced this type of problem ?
