Charlie : If you have a digital volt ohm meter, unplug the connector as close to the pto clutch that goes to the pto clutch and take an ohm measurement. Set the meter to ohms at about the 200ohm scale, place one meter lead on one of the terminals on the connector going to the pto clutch and place the other lead of the meter on the other wire in that same connector.

I can't really remember the exact readings you should get in ohms, but 68 to 100 would be great but 1 to 30 is bad and can draw alot more current than the charging system can put out. By the way those clutches get hot normally when running. The heat travels down the engine crank and also the electric coil generates some heat also. Fing ohms law and use the equasion to find your current draw. I think its volts divided by ohms for current which is amps.
