Linda : I know John Deere makes the scotts 1642 mower but I am not really familuar with the scotts brand however bontaijo on the forum may or Tony. My uneducated guess based on JD experience only is that when the brake pedal if fully depressed has a latch and it is usually a lever or handle that shows a picture of a lock that one way it is locked and the other way unlocked. You need to fully depress the pedal and look for a lever on the dash or on the panel where the charge gauge is. I hope you can get the problem solved. Worse case scenario we can look it up.
