: I recently purchased a 317 JD ,and looking over this forum I did'nt see alot of questions about the 317. How does this stand up to all the others , is this a good model?
Bought one in 1979, used and abused it for 10 years before the Kohler destroyed itself. JD clains the 17hp engine split block was put together with silicone and over the years excess would break off plugging oil journals. Was a great engine. Replaced with the 18 Onan and still running it today. Only problem is weak mower deck. Wore out 2 before building my own which has outlasted the first 2.
