Ditto the above remarks. I changed an old battery thinking that the battery was bad. It turned out to be a corroded connection on the frame end of the negative battery cable! Remember these vehicles sometimes sit out and get rain on them causing rust. Even condensation can cause rust, so even if your tractor sits inside when not being used the connections to the frame can still corrode.
Use some liquid wrench or WE-40 to soak the frame end cable bolt before attempting removal. Mine broke off in the frame. I had to find a different spot to ground the battery.
