hi, I got the same problem.first look uner the seat and find who made the tractor, mine was jd. the trans is made by turftorq. they are in buisness and very friendly.as far as replacement, this must have been a epidemic all the ones I see have the same problem. I am looking into replacement trans but a manual. the jd make a tractor called sabre, the same tractor,just paint. to my knowlage n one of the real jd stuff will cross over. Im scrapping mine neded parts?good luck regards, Erich
