are you going to tell me that the John Deere LX172 that is sitting in my garage doesn't exist???

Christian - jdparts.com or johndeere.com has the info on the manuals and such that you need. However, your cheapest route would be eBay like Dave mentioned. A service manual run about $150 new through JD retailers...I know we've been looking for the owners/service/parts manual(s)....

I just found that for my husband. I assume that the lx172 it is referring to is for the riding mower (they consider it a lawn tractor in their terms so that may help any online searches you make) & not the snowthrower...LOL...I'll find out when he looks at the info in the morning...
Also, here is a link to the maintenance sheets for the lx172 (38, 44, 48 blades are all on this page, just chose the one you need - note: you must have at least the free Adobe Reader installed)
