I have a 145 and same problem. I am replacing the gear and steering sector at the bottom of the column for the third time - only 64 hours on the mower. It seems to round the teeth off in just a few hours and then sterring starts slipping. Soon it takes a football field to turn the thing. Planning to call Deere this week. The local dealer told me it was a non-warranty issue. I asked if there was a recall or desogn flaw and he said no. He did say "maybe some grease on it will help". Thanks! The darn thing was nearly un-steerable today when mowing the yard. I come from a family of John Deere owners and used them all my life. I have to say that I was forced to use a second-hand Murray for awhile before I could afford a Deere. Never had to do anything but blades and belt on the Murray. That used to be the same for JD but this is ridiculous. Let me know if you find anything.
