In Reply to: What is the most common problem when the battery wont charge... posted by Eric on Wednesday, April 30, 2008:
Before you replace anything, check that the battery has good clean corrosion free connections on the terminals, that the negative wire is tightly connected at the other end to a clean corrosion free spot on either the frame or motor (not sure where yours goes). Then check with a DC volt meter that you have around 12 volts between the battery terminals with the engine OFF. Start the engine and test the voltage between the terminals on the battery again, should be somewhere between 13.5 to 14 volts if charging correctly.
