316 onan governor goes away

I have a 316 jd with an onan engine. It runs fine for about 30 to 40 minutes the it starts to rev. up then you have to back the throttle off to slow the motor down. After it cools off for a long time it is good to go for another 30 or so minutes. Any help would be appreciated
