There are safety switches inline and if the seat switch is working you have to be on the seat when the pto switch is pulled to the on position otherwise the engine will die. Also if the brake switch is activated or stuck on, the unit will also die after the pto switch is pulled to the on position.
#1=put the emergency brake in the locked down position. Get off the mower as it is running pto switch off. The mower should stay running. Do not get on the seat and release the parking brake, the mower should die out. If that is happening most likely the seat switch and brake switch are working.
#2=get on the mower and start it. Release the brake and or depress it several times and then let off the brake completely. Move the forward and reverse pedals back and forth go forward wide open throttle and pull the pto out. The pto will not engauge if you are not setting on the seat or if the brake pedal is depressed.
