Dave - No. The turnbuckle is for leveling the deck side to side. Front to back leveling is done at the yokes on the end of the draft rods (coming off the mule drive) that hook to the front of the deck.
At the back left of the tractor, there's a large diameter threaded rod with a cross pin. That's the deck height adjust screw.
First, make sure the deck is leveled, with the front of the deck about 1/8" to 1//4" lower than the back of the deck, and the left side even with the right side. Tractor should be on a hard level surface and the tires properly inflated.
Turn the deck height adjust screw out a few turns to give you some excess adjustment. Set the gage wheels to the approximate cutting height. Lower the deck so the gage wheels are off the hard level surface; from 1/4" to 3/8". Then turn the deck height adjust screw in until it stops. That's it. - Dave
