Where is the hydraulic filter located on a JD 316?
Underneath the rear on the transaxle housing. It looks like a car's spin on oil filter,

How many quarts does the hydraulic system hold?
Approximately 6 quarts

How do you determine if the system is full?
By checking the level in the rear sight glass located above the rear hitch or by checking the dipstick.

Where is the fill neck for this system?
Depending on the year of your tractor, it's either under the hood with a SEPARATE dipstick from the engine oil, or under the seat at the rear above the hitch. You would see a metal tube sticking up with a hex cap on it. You first clean around that cap then remove it and add fluid there until you see it in the MIDDLE of the sight glass.
