Todd - From your serial number the tractor is a 1990, so you would have a P-218G Onan. So points are not an issue, since you have electronic ignition.
If you've tried the fuel cap check that I mentioned in my other post, and that does not resolve the problem, then I would look to the coil.
I'm guessing you probably don't have a tech/service manual for your 318. Give me some time to dig up the info on checking the coil. - Dave
