I just purchased a JD 316 for $1150. It's a pretty clean one-owner unit. The seller said it was his father's mower and that his dad had passed away about 3 years ago. The son had it advertised as a 22HP 54 inch deck JD. Not knowing the brand, I took him at his word. It has around 950 hrs. It was said to be serviced "religously" by his father. This is my first JD, having used older Wheel Horses for the last 30 years. I'm anxious to enjoy this new tractor, but know little about JD. I now know that it is an 18 hp, 50 inch deck. But, what is the difference between the 316 and 318. This unit has the Onan P218. It was built in '89. I have no owner's manual, but it is on order from JD. Any education about this tractor would be appreciated. Thanks.
