Sounds like you may have a bent connecting rod, if oil was on top of the piston. At the least, you should remove the piston, check the rod and piston for damage (should be checked by an engine shop). The crank should be ok, unless the bearing has siezed to it for some other reason. Replace the bearing and inspect the journal for damage.
