In Reply to: Compact Tractor or sub-compact Choice? posted by Nuru on Friday, November 09, 2001:
: Hello everyone, anyone!
: I am in the process of upgrading my GT 225 to a larger tractor. I have the option between buying a 4100 manual shift or a GT 455. I am also considering a Kubota BX2200. My tasks are as follows:
: Grass Mowing 1/4 acre, slight hills, few turns - I want to mow it fast
: Snow Plowing/removal - 120 foot driveway, RI area
: 20 yards of Mulch to move and distribute.
: boulder movement - up to 500 or so pounds
: I hear there are concerns about using the loader and the mower deck with the manual tranny on the 4100. Are there any concerns I should have about either unit in doing the work that I am looking at?
: Similar in price $10 - 11k.
: Any advice?

You should most likely operate the loader without the mid-mower on any of the tractors you are purchaseing. However, if you will be going over less rugged turain the 4100 will be your choice because of ground clearance. The BX2200 has absolutely no ground clearance. If you plan on doing loader work buy the 4100. However, if you are moving bolders you may want to look into a larger compact tractor.
