: : : I recently purchased a 317 JD ,and looking over this forum I did'nt see alot of questions about the 317. How does this stand up to all the others , is this a good model?

: : The weak link in the 317 was the engine - the 17HP Kohler engine tended to fail. If that happens to your unit, you might be able to install the 18HP Onan twin cylinder which was what the 318 had as well as later 316s.
SECOND SUBMISSION
I recently purchased another 317 that is in mint condition to replace one that I used for 10 years with few problems up to the end. In the end I was looking at a new seal and starter to start and sold it for a very fair price.
What "point of failure" should I anticipate in the engine and what actions might prevent the failure.
Thanks
