In Reply to: 318 runs then suddenly quits .... posted by D. Fischer on Tuesday, January 27, 2004:
I just fixed this same problem with my 318 and it turned out to be the 25amp auto reset circuit breaker. The male end on the breaker was rusty and the female plug was loose- combine the two and you end up with alot of resistence. The hotter it got the quicker it trips and also the higher rpm's -the quicker it tripped because the voltage increases with rpm's which will increase the current draw. My theory is the initial resistence was generating heat on the plug at the breaker which in turn increased the resistence which generated more heat which increased the resistence......you get the point. Anyway, I cleaned the male and female connections and crimped(slightly) the female plug for a tighter fit and put some dielectric grease on the plug and haven't had a problem since.
